Here goes the steps to install your additional Ethernet card:1. Turn off the computer which will serve as gateway for your wireless AP.
2. Remove the cover, search for a free slot that fits your new Ethernet Card and install it.
3. Put the cover back and turn the computer on.
4. Windows will recognize your new Ethernet adapter and may ask you to insert a CD in order to install the appropriate driver. You will have the option to search for a driver at Microsoft.com as well. Usually it works.
5. Follow the steps and your Ethernet card will be installed.
6. Now we need to setup the TCP/IP protocol for this new Ethernet card.
TYPE OF SETUPSThere are two different ways to setup your network in order to provide Internet Access to your clients:EggKey Gateway Proxy Server only (HTTP and HTTPS protocols): This setup will allow your clients to browse the Internet only. No other service will be allowed, they will be able to check their e-mails using a web browser if their e-mail server has web based access features (such as hotmail.com). This is pretty good for you because they will not be able to play games nor using video conference features, but they may not like your services because its limitations.
EggKey Gateway Proxy Server and NAT: This setup will allow your clients to use everything they want. There is no protocol limitation. It may require more of your bandwidth if your clients decide to play games or participate in video conferences, but they will be fully happy with your service. SUPPORTING NAT (Network Address Translation)
If you want to support NAT follow these steps, otherwise just go to the next topic "ETHERNET SETUP".1. You probably have two network Ethernet adapters in your machine by now. To enable NAT we need to share your Internet connection first.
2. Open up the Windows Control Panel and select under "Network and Dial-Up Connections" the connection which goes to the Internet, usually it will is called "Local Area Connection".
3. Click the buttom PROPERTIES and you will see something like:

4. Click on the Sharing tab as shown in red, and Enable Internet Connection Sharing:

5. Click OK, if a message pops up just confirm.
6. When you enable Internet Connection Sharing, Windows changes automatically the IP of your second adapter to 192.168.0.1 - We don't want to leave it with this address otherwise people will be able to connect without authenticating.
7. Go ahead and perform the ETHERNET SETUP again (in case you have done before).
ETHERNET SETUP
1. Open up the Windows Control Panel and select under "Network and Dial-Up Connections" the new connection you just created, usually it will be called "Local Area Connection 2".
2. You will see a setup window like the following one:

3. Leave ONLY the Internet Protocol TCP/IP marked. It will make your connection safe, and nobody from the wireless connection will be able to access your computer using Windows resources.
4. Click on the Properties Button and you will see a new window like this:

5. Type the IP address 192.168.11.1 and Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 only. Leave everything else BLANK. (just copy the example).
6. Close both windows clicking on the OK button.
7. That's it! Your ethernet is configured to use EggKey Gateway. |
